My Story
One time I ate 24 pancakes.
Yep. Twenty-four. As in two-four. Twenty-four pan of the cakes.
One of my favorite childhood memories is the pancake contests at my Aunt Sweedon and Uncle Lyman's house. Anytime more than two cousins were there (which was often) we'd have pancake wars to see who could eat the most. I'll be honest... I don't think I ever actually won. But the memories of Mrs. Butterworth, way too much butter, and belly laughs around that table have stayed with me all these years.
Then there were the afternoons at Aunt Geraldine's house, watching "Stories" while she made Hamburger Helper, instant mashed potatoes, and her famous red velvet cake. And seriously... how many times did Marlena get possessed on Days of Our Lives? I remember thinking it was one of the scariest things I'd ever seen. Looking back, I probably understood about 10% of what was happening—but I never missed an episode.
I still remember spending all day at the pool before heading to Aunt Patsy and Uncle Larry's house, opening the refrigerator, and grabbing those bright red hot dogs. Looking back, I have questions... but at the time they were absolutely perfect.
And then there were the beach days in Fernandina—sunburned noses, sandy feet, ham sandwiches, and an ice cold Yoo-hoo that somehow hit different after a day in the sun.
As life changed, I realized those memories were never really about the food.
They were about the people who made ordinary days unforgettable.
I'd love to tell you about all the other incredible people in my life one day. They each have their own stories, and somehow they've all found their way into this little bakery.
The name Lunatic Bakehouse comes from one of my favorite books, Lunatic Café by Laurell K. Hamilton. IYKYK. 😂 For years, the name stayed tucked away in the back of my mind, quietly waiting for the right moment. When it came time to build something new, exciting, and completely my own... I knew exactly where to find it.
If you know anything about me, you know I preach about the little details.
The smell of warm cookies drifting through the house. A handwritten note tucked into a box. The creak of an old bookstore floor. A recipe that's a little different every single time because that's how Mema and Nana made it. It's almost impossible for anyone in my family to write down a recipe because we are known for measuring with our hearts.
Those are the things that stay with us.
Lunatic Bakehouse was created to be more than a bakery.
It's a place built on nostalgia, stories, books, and laughter.
Every cookie is made from recipes I've poured my heart into, using ingredients I trust and techniques I've spent countless hours perfecting.
But the recipe has never been the whole point.
The real goal is simple.
I hope you find something here that reminds you of something or someone you love.
Welcome to Lunatic Bakehouse.
I'm so glad you're here.
